Corem Deo

For King David, reality meant living life before the face of God.  It was his wanting to dwell where God dwells that revealed David’s working philosophy of life.  This was his ultimate pursuit.  So committed to living ‘Corem Deo’ (living in the presence or before the face of God) that he put it into song (Psalm 27).  The one thing he wants is to dwell in the house of the Lord!

David is singing for us that God’s home is the home that we have been looking for in every home that we have ever been in. Have you ever visited someone’s home and just picked up a vibe that was in the air?  An atmosphere that just made you feel at home?  It is that spiritual aroma or spiritual atmosphere that is an echo of the reality that David is writing about.

When David writes:  oh to gaze upon the beauty of the LORD, David is telling us that God’s beauty is the beauty that we have been looking for in every beautiful face we have gazed upon, in every piece of music we have listened too, in every majestic film we have watched, in every canvass of art that has moved us.

In verse 8 of this same psalm David sings of God:  My heart says of you, “Seek his face!” Your face, LORD, I will seek.  David is telling us that God’s face is the face we have been looking for in every encounter or relationship that we have ever had!  But now here is what is amazing.  The love and beauty that David sang about was something he had only hoped to one day experience.  Today, because of Christ, we can sing about this beauty in full realization.  Because of Christ we can now live fully Corem Deo.  Seek His face today and gaze upon the beauty of the Lord.
