May we journey like the Magi

When it comes to the nativity scene, its  perhaps the Magi (the wise men) with whom we most identify.  I say that because their journey in many ways resembles our own today.  Just like the Magi who travelled far, we too have travelled far in our own lives.  Just like the Magi, who came with a pursuit of intellectual curiosity, we too have pursued intellectual curiosity.  Just like the Magi, our intellectual curiosity took us to a place where we have questioned:  Where is this savior I have heard about?  But above all that, just like the Magi, when the savior is found at Christmas (or better yet…when He found us!) we too bow our knee and experience a wondrous joy!  Again, this is the reason for the season!

Way back in the Old Testament there is this wonderful passage that speaks to this wondrous joy:  16 the oracle of one who hears the words of God, who has knowledge from the Most High, who sees a vision from the Almighty, who falls prostrate, and whose eyes are opened: 17 “I see him, but not now; I behold him, but not near. A star will come out of Jacob; a scepter will rise out of Israel. ~ Numbers 24:17

May we continue to journey through life like the Magi.  May we follow the star that guides us to the one who gave us the star.  May we understand that our journey is to see the new born King!
