Pushing Your Luck

By Chaplain Taylor Dubose
“The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face to shine upon you and be gracious to you; the Lord lift up his countenance upon you and give you peace.”
- Numbers 6: 24-26
My daughter started saying this phrase, “you're pushing your luck.” My wife and I say something, or do something, my daughter disagrees with, and we hear, “you're pushing your luck.” My daughter is three and half. I have no clue where she heard it from, but I cannot tell you how disconcerting it was the first time she said it to me. “I’m pushing my luck?!” I thought, “Who does this kid think she’s talking to?”
How often in life do we experience hardship, or challenges, in life, and look to God and say “you're pushing your luck?” OK! We may not literally say this, but we live our life as if we feel it. We pray as if our God is a God of luck, and he’s definitely pushing it.
I encourage you today to take a look at your life, take a look at your choices. Was it luck? Good luck or bad luck? Or instead was it circumstances? How much work and effort you put into it? Was it the provisions and the blessings of God upon your life?
God may not be a God of luck, but he certainly is a God of blessings. God wishes to pour out blessing upon blessing on your life. This verse is a reminder for the hard days and the difficult days that God wishes to bless you, bring peace to you, and shine light upon your life; even if you’re pushing your luck.
