Seed Time

A relative made a comment of how many are dealing with this season of pollen, which has seemed unrelenting in its effects on those who have allergies, myself included.  Yet, I thought there are seasons, reasons, and outcomes for everything.

Pollen is the natural process of ushering in Spring and new growth of foliage and flowers.  Nature renewing and producing itself.  Yes, its sometimes frustrating and certainly uncomfortable with the sneezing, watery, itchy eyes, and more.  But as this is a season, it comes and goes, just as seasons do.  They do not last forever.

I thought further, of seed planting and the outcome, which is Harvest.  How we are blessed from the many farmers all they do.  How their hard work brings forth the vegetables, fruits, diary, and meat products we use every day.  Yet, it does not stop there.  We enjoy the beautiful flowers that grace our tables, yards, and countryside.  It benefits all on so many levels. For certainly, my is heart warmed when gifted with flowers.

Yet, from a Spiritual perspective the scripture, “Be not deceived, God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth that shall he also reap,” Galatians 6:7.  I do not know many who have not heard this statement. It is a rule of nature and life.  The passage says, “God is not mocked.”  Meaning that there is an outcome that mirrors the action.

One cannot plant an apple and get an orange. Or be harsh, unkind, mean spirited and receive love. Thus, we will always harvest what we plant. Many are not farmers by profession, but we can all be farmers of “good seeds” of relationship, environment, faith, and vocation.

Counseling many often reveals situations where there are unhealthy relationships. There can be lack of respect, poor communication, an unwillingness to meet half-way. Planting seeds of forgiveness, reconciliation, and love can be seeds of nurture and restoration for healthy relationships.

Our environment is private and communal.  We can plant seeds of orderliness, honoring space, safety, diversity, and cooperation, would help all of us in private spaces and the world at large.

The seeds we plant to grow our faith comes from walking, talking, learning and being an example of what we believe.  Faith in our Lord Jesus comes from acceptance and belief in Him, reading God’s word, and allowing that word and His Spirit to guide our lives, and love others as He has loved us.  Thus, being the children of God and bearing seeds of righteousness.

Lastly, our vocation.  Our means of profession and work.  Whatever we do, let us do it with thought of outcome.   Are we grumpy when our day starts, or do we sprinkle it with seeds of gratefulness?  Are we agents of change for the worse or better? Let us bring seeds of excellence and caring to what we do.

Remember, we reap what we sow.  No matter which way we look at it in the Spiritual or Natural, let us all sow good seed, so that our harvest is GOOD!    Amen
