More Than Enough

“And they spoke to Moses, saying, “The people bring much more than enough for the service of the work which the LORD commanded us to do. So Moses gave a commandment, and they caused it to be proclaimed throughout the camp, saying, “Let neither man nor woman do any more work for the offering of the sanctuary.” And the people were restrained from bringing, for the material they had was sufficient for all the work to be done—indeed too much.”

Materials were needed for the construction of the Tabernacle. Moses makes the announcement to the people, asking them to bring what they could to help. It was a freewill offering, not mandatory. The people could choose whether to give or not. In this chapter, we find out that the need was met, and then some! They actually brought too much! Can you imagine this happening at your church? The deacons or ushers count the offering and bring a joyous report to the pastor. "The offering plates are overflowing!!!"
While that is possible, it doesn't happen all that often. In today's reading, the Israelites brought more than enough for the construction of the Tabernacle. The report was brought to Moses, and the people were told not to bring anything else for the work. God had enabled the Israelites to give an abundance of materials. God gives us an abundance of love, mercy and grace. Here's just a few examples of the "abundance" of God.
“And the LORD passed before him and proclaimed, “The LORD, the LORD God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abounding in goodness and truth,” (Exodus 34:6)
“You crown the year with Your goodness, And Your paths drip with abundance.”
(Psalms 65:11)
“They are abundantly satisfied with the fullness of Your house, And You give them drink from the river of Your pleasures.” (Psalms 36:8)
“For if by the one man’s offense death reigned through the one, much more those who receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness will reign in life through the One, Jesus Christ.)”
(Romans 5:17)
“But God, who is rich in mercy because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), and raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, that in the ages to come He might show the exceeding riches of His grace in His kindness toward us in Christ Jesus.”
