Presence of the Holy

Looking around the garden this morning, I noticed all the changes taking place. Some of the flowers that were bright and beautiful over the summer are now not blooming. Some of the vines that have remained green for the summer, though have not budded are really starting to bloom and make their presence known. The green has been there all summer long, but the flowers have waited until Autumn to blossom.

I look at these flowers and I am reminded of a few different things. Things come and go. There is always change. Each flower is beautiful in it’s time. Each plant has a place and a purpose. Some of the plants have a bold presence. Some of the plants make up the background, but without them, the fullness of the garden would be lost. Each and every one makes an impact. Now as the fall is taking it’s course, some of the background plants are really showing off their powerful presence.

I am also reminded of the work the Holy. At times the work of the Holy is bright and beautiful and boldly before us. Other times the work of the Holy is a maintaining presence, quiet, giving a sense of peace, or fullness. Today, take a moment to close your eyes and breath deeply. Is the Holy bright or quiet? Thankfully, either way, the presence of the Holy is there with you.
