Where Does our Hope Come From?

By Chaplain Rachel Ferrarini
“I lift up my eyes to the hills, where does my help come from?
My help comes from the Lord, the maker of heaven and earth.
He will not let your foot slip, he who watches over you will not slumber.
The Lord watches over you-The Lord is your shade at your right hand;
The sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon by night.
The Lord will keep you from all harm-he will watch over your life;
The Lord will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore.”
- Psalm 121
Some days we just need a moment to be encouraged. We want help with all the things that are before us to do. We need hope to come with us too. We do so much to help others, to encourage others and to keep hope for our families, co-workers and all the people that we support through our work. But we need to also remember, that we need some encouragement too. May today with this reading of Psalm 121 be just that for you.
Take a moment, put your feet firmly on the floor, wiggle your toes, or tap them, and then place them back firmly on the floor. Stretch out your back, your shoulders, your neck. Stretch your arms and fingers. Close your eyes and take three deep breaths. This is a way to release tension, stress and to prepare your physical body for the work that is ahead today.
Then reread Psalm 121. The Lord is with you. The Lord is watching over you and knows the work before you today. The Lord has you and will not let you fall. So know and trust that whatever comes, you will be able to take on the challenges and work through them.
“May you be blessed with renewed strength in body, mind and spirit. Amen.”
