Anchor in the Storm

I know a man who once worked as a cook on one of the oil rigs in the Gulf of Mexico. He spoke of all the preparations that were made on the oil rig when a hurricane was taking aim on the gulf. He said the major emphasis was anchoring the rigs and as much equipment as possible.

When storms come in your life, what do you anchor to? Where do you anchor your heart? The only place to anchor the human heart is to the heart of God Himself.

When Moses was called by God to return to Egypt through the burning bush of Exodus 3, a storm rose up in Moses. He didn’t want to return to Egypt simply because when he fled from Egypt some forty years earlier, he had done so after slaying an Egyptian. So, immediately, as God called Moses back into His service to lead the children of Israel out of Egypt, Moses began with the excuses. In verse 13, Moses asks, “If I come to the people of Israel and say to them, ‘The God of your fathers has sent me to you,’ and they ask me, ‘What is his name?’ what shall I say to them?”

In Exodus 3:14, God tells Moses His name is “I AM WHO I AM.” God did not say, I Was,” or “I Will Be, “ but “I AM.” This name for God points to His self-existence and eternality. It denotes “I am the One who is and will be.”

God is ever-present, constant, consistent, changeless and faithful. When storms make landfall in our lives, you and I can be confident that we can anchor our hearts to His heart! I pray you will be blessed and strengthened!
