Our weekend bereavement camp for kids will be held Aug. 2-4, 2024, in beautiful Tallulah Falls, Ga. Applications are now being accepted for campers and adult volunteers.

Destiny Shaw – Neil Pruitt Sr. Scholarship Award

Georgia War Veterans Home

LPN

Destiny Shaw is currently employed at as an LPN at the Georgia War Veterans Home where she has worked since last summer. She has been involved in long-term health care for over 10 years and as the child of a retired Lieutenant Colonel, she loves working amongst her Military veteran residents. Destiny is a single mother whose goal is to demonstrate to her four children that you can achieve anything, if you put your mind to the task. For Destiny, that means continuing on in her education. She is pursuing her Associates degree at Southeastern Technical College in their Health Care Management program. Destiny was also the recipient of the Fred Watson Scholarship Award in 2021-2022.

Elizabeth Boyd – Dorothy Shull Scholarship Award

Elizabeth Boyd graduated from high school last month. But after taking dual credit classes she will be starting at Toccoa College this fall as a sophomore. She has a great passion for health care and has wanted to work as a nurse ever since she has been involved in the care of her brother who has Cerebral Palsy. Elizabeth is currently employed at PruittHealth – Toccoa as a Certified Nursing Assistant but desires to continue until she has completed her education as an RN.

Lisa Chartrand - Coy Williamson Scholarship Award

Health Care Center Infection Preventionist

Lisa is currently employed at PruittHealth – Toccoa . She moved from accounting into long-term healthcare as a divine calling given by God. She sees her role as a sacred ministry to care for others and to provide on-going spiritual and emotional support to all the patients and residents she has the privilege of serving. Lisa is currently enrolled at Columbus State University and looks forward to continuing in her education in order to have greater opportunity to impact the lives of others.

Taqueicia Colbert – Robin W. Bryson Scholarship Award

Registered Nurse Case Manager

As the sole caretaker in her family, Taqueicia is not only working two jobs but is in the process of earning her masters degree at South University in nursing. Her goal is to be a certified nurse practitioner in order to provide better health care in rural communities. As one who grew up in a small town community, Taqueicia has a desire to give back and wants to make her mark in both hospice and palliative care.

Oluwafemi Ekungba – Scott Shull Scholarship Award

Originally from Nigeria, Oluwafemi migrated to the United States with a Bachelor of Science degree in Banking and Finance from the University of Ado-Ekiti, Nigeria. But upon arriving here he found a desire to work in healthcare and became a Certified Nurse’s Assistant and later a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). He is currently enrolled at the International College of Health Science where he is studying to be a Registered Nurse.

Jamie Randall – Fred A. Watson Scholarship Award

Volunteer Coordinator

Jamie did not start out in long term health care. It wasn’t until he realized that the career goals he had for himself were unfulfilling and he had an overwhelming desire to serve others. He found that first in assisted living and now in hospice care. He started out as a Certified Nursing Assistant, but his current role is as the Volunteer Coordinator at PruittHealth Hospice (Aiken). Jamie is currently enrolled at Limestone College with the intention of getting a Bachelor of Social Work. He hopes to eventually earn his Masters degree and become a Bereavement Counselor for PruittHealth.

Carnella Tilghman – R. Lawrence Williams Scholarship Award

North Carolina State Veterans Home – Kinston

CNA

Carnella is enrolled at Wayne Community College and is working towards her nursing degree. Currently Carnella is dual-employed as a Certified Nursing Assistant at the North Carolina State Veterans Home – Kinston, while also working part-time as a substitute teacher. She is pursuing higher education in order to have a full-time career in long-term health care. Carnella has a desire to help others and has a passion for health care. She recognizes the need for well-trained health care workers and desires to help fulfill that need.

Khristah Walker – George T. Hunt, III Scholarship Award

PruittHealth – Eastside

Medical Records Director

Khristah Walker has been involved in long-term health care for the past many years. She currently serves as the Medical Records Director at PruittHealth - Eastside. She is also enrolled at Herzing University where she is majoring in Health Care Administration. Her desire to complete her associate and bachelor degrees is to be an example to her six children and to honor her grandparents who always stressed to Khristah the importance of furthering her education. Her ultimate goal, once she finishes her schooling, is to become a hospital case manager. She loves working for PruittHealth and wants to always give back. This marks the second year that Khristah has received the George T. Hunt Scholarship Award.
